Ban issued on irregular use of 2017 BRICS Summit logo

The official logo of 2017 BRICS Summit was approved and registered by the State Administration for Industry and Commerce on April 10, 2017 according to the Regulations for Special Signs.

Under certain regulations, conferences taking place during the 2017 BRICS Summit will be automatically granted authorisation to use the logo, through discussion with Xiamen’s preparatory leading group office. Only with  the approval of the preparatory office and committee, can the logo be used for other purposes.

Organisations or individuals that  use the logo, or similar logos on unofficial services and/or unregistered products without permission, and other users of the special sign who paint or tamper with the logo without authorization tamper with it, , will be subject to investigation and legal action from the Administration for Industry and Commerce and related departments.

The main component of the 2017 BRICS Summit Logo resembles both full sails and a rotating earth, painted in five colours that represent the five BRICS countries. The symbolism is two-fold: BRICS countries breaking the waves in the same boat towards a brighter future; and BRICS playing an important role in global political and economical affairs. The Logo brings out the theme of the Summit, “BRICS: Stronger Partnership for a Brighter Future,” and brims with the distinct marine culture of the host city Xiamen.

At the bottom are the English words BRICS 2017 CHINA and a red seal reading China, which highlights China’s role in chairing BRICS 2017. The seal is engraved in a Big Seal Script or Dazhuan, an ancient Chinese calligraphic style, giving the logo a specific touch of traditional Chinese culture.
